Fancy Guppies are fun. And frustrating. And beautiful. And rewarding. And breathtakingly stunning.
There are top quality guppies bred for competition, rare and exotic guppies imported from the far east, new strains being developed by genetic whizzes, all the way to a couple bought at the local fish store living in a 10 gallon tank in someone's living room. The guppy hobby offers a wide variety of challenges. You can take it as far as you want to. Keeping them can be as easygoing or as obsessive compulsive as you desire. I'm a little on the obsessive end of the spectrum. The only thing that keeps me in check is the pure lack of space. And I'm working on that. Ingenuity is on my side.
I have 2 remaining fish left over from purchasing "fish store" fish. Both males, both beautiful. Neither will be bred. They are going into a heavily planted and decorated 2.5 gallon display tank with some fancy shrimp and snails.
My others were purchased with serious breeding in mind. I bought into somewhat unusual strains. Not IFGA "show fish" but newer hybrid strains that are large, healthy, hearty fish. I've always been attracted to the different and unusual and I definitely have that in the varieties I have chosen, the blue metal grass and the black metal head.
